World Maths Day 2012

All events: World Spelling Day, World Maths Day and the first World Science day are now over for 2012. You can see the World Maths Day Hall of Fame on the site. Mathletics users (subscription service) can of course keep playing the games.

For World Maths Day fans looking for some Maths games perhaps try some of the games in this post: World Maths Day Withdrawal Symptoms?

The World Maths Day blog has the latest news you can also follow @WorldEduGames on Twitter or The World Education Games on Facebook. There is also a World Maths Day page on Facebook.

During the World Maths Day event students of all ages play other students in their age category from around the world in live games of mental arithmetic. I have seen many students of all ages thoroughly enjoying this event.

During the event itself students can earn points for up to 50 games, each game lasting one minute. Over 50 games can be played but the points will not be added to their personal score for the event.  Teachers can play too! Note that the event lasts as long as it is the event date somewhere in the world; check the FAQ (under ‘Resources’) for start times at various cities round the world. There are also clear guides for students and teachers available under Resources.

Note that if your students enjoy games of this kind Sumdog and Tutpup are free all year round. Manga High is now completely free in several countries including UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, all of Scandinavia and the Indian subcontinent. For other free Number games see this page also this page on games collections; the collections from Math Playground and that from Oswego City School District are particularly good for mental arithmetic. For practise at tables, including against the clock see this collection.

For those interested in practising their spelling in preparation for World Spelling Day there are numerous resources online including games.
